Analysis for Hatchet 3 (2013)

Hatchet 3 is the Hatchet's horror film of 2013. It chronicles Victor Crowley's continuing adventures and his rampage through Louisiana's Honey Island Swamp. Kane Hodder plays Victor Crowley, Brian Quinn portrays Deputy Winslow, Rileah vanderbilt portrays Misty.

The main strengths of the film lie in its practical special effects. Hatchet 3 is a modern horror film that heavily relies on CG effects. Hatchet 3 focuses mainly on realistic makeup effects as well as sets. The result is some truly horrifying scenes.

The cast delivers a solid performance and Kane Hodder standing out as the most intimidating villain. It feels like a slasher film from the 1980s and the dialogue is a bit too funny and snarky. There are also moments of humor in the movie which add humour to bloody action.

Unfortunately, due to the limited budget (reportedly only $1 million) many of the locations are re-used from previous films in the series. The same boat house was featured two times within the movie and much of it feels like it's been recycled from previous (click now to read blog) films in the series. This can make it feel almost too familiar for those who have watched Hatchet or Hatchet 2

Overall, I enjoyed Hatchet 3 even though it was very similar to previous installments in the series. It also provided lots of bloody thrills as well as some entertaining performances by its cast members.
